It’s now been two and a half years since we signed the lease at 201 W. 9 Mile Rd. It took us almost 3 years to find the space we wanted for what we could afford, so The Oakland was a long, long time in the making. It’s fun to watch the video clips
of me walking through the Nami Sushi Bar space having absolutely no clue how the next couple years would go. Almost 4 months after signing the lease, I was petrified having only just been approved for the loan. I can say that the time in between signing the lease and opening was by far the scariest of my life. You can hear it in my voice (and in the fact that I actually got the address wrong). Fortunately we made it though the opening and have been able to build on what we started from. Our liquor inventory has more than quadrupled and we built a seasonal tiki bar that will be reopening as soon as the weather warms up.
Click these pictures I took on the first day I looked at the space, when it was (the closed) Nami Sushi Bar.
